Smartphones have become an integral part of our daily lives, and their use in schools is a hotly debated topic. The Student Union, Nexus, organized a Teacher vs Student Debate during assembly on the topic, inviting four teachers, Mr. Cheng Chung Yan, Mr. Fung Wai Ching, Mr. Chan Yuk Sum, and Ms. Wu Chun Yu, to debate against the school debate team.
On one hand, students argue that smartphones are a distraction in the classroom and can be used for cyberbullying. On the other hand, teachers argue that smartphones are a daily necessity, and students should learn to be responsible for their property. Questions were also raised from the audience, challenging both teams.
The whole debate was engaging. Both teams spoke eloquently and clearly. The teachers’ team did a comprehensive research because they used statistics to convince everyone. Whereas the students' team used lively examples to engage with their schoolmates.
After both sides made compelling arguments, the teachers' team won in the end, and Ms. Wu Chun Yu was awarded the best speaker for her charismatic presentation.
