The Department of Home Economics
The Department of Home Economics aims to instill real-life knowledge and skills to
-
enable students to make good use of generic skills in handling physical and socio-economic resources for self, family and the community;
-
nurture students to devise and implement strategies to solve complicated problems in technological contexts, in particular, food/textile, using a range of appropriate techniques and procedures; and
-
promote the application of Home Economics knowledge in daily life by working on different kinds of projects.
Curriculum Information
Students can experience different basic cooking and sewing methods during the 2-year course in the Home Economics junior curriculum.
The curriculum in S.2 focuses on management of self and family through teaching students sewing, cooking and nutrition while the S.3curriculum focuses on the management of community/business in the aspect of Home Economics through more advanced cooking and sewing skills, and applying such skills into the real business market.
Project works related to the needs in daily life are conducted throughout the course. Some of the project themes include a creative theme restaurant and a food product with food package.
Outside the Classroom
Students are given the chance to apply the skills they learn in activities such as

demonstration lessons on Experience Day;

workshops on Info Day ;
serving as students tutors for the parents and primary students visitors; -
Teachers Tasting lessons, in which students receive comments from any teachers after carrying out a series of tasks;

food theme design;
reference to TV programmes
presentation of their self-made food products -
Inter-school Cooking Contest ; and

Refreshment Preparation for TTCA Annual Speech Day.
Music
The Department of Music
The Department of Music aims to:
-
Provide an all-rounded music education to all students of the school
-
Develop creativity and nurture aesthetic sensitivity
-
Further develop students’ musical competence, construct knowledge and an understanding of diverse musical cultures
-
Develop critical responses to and communicate effectively through music
-
Cultivate a lifelong interest in and develop positive values and attitudes towards music
Curriculum Information
Our curriculum emphasizes three domains: listening, performing, and creating. In addition to the formal curriculum, we provide a rich variety of learning and performance opportunities for our students. In S.1, each student will participate in one instrumental class, choosing from a wide range of options in Chinese and Western music instruments. Students with exceptional music talents will be invited to join the music school teams, which include the orchestra, school choir, recorder team, and Chinese music ensemble.
Outside the Classroom
TTCiAns are continually awarded outstanding achievements in both local and international competitions. The music team members were awarded 6 first prizes, 6 second prizes, and 10 third prizes in individual and duet events at the 75th Hong Kong Schools Music Festival in 2023. Additionally, the school choir and recorder team were awarded the Gold Award in Vocal Ensemble - Treble Voice and Recorder Ensemble, respectively, in the same competition. We are delighted to compete with other young musicians from around the world through competitions organized in Japan, Austria, the USA, and other online music organizations. Our students have also been invited to perform at Disneyland Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Cultural Center, the Sheung Wan Civic Centre Theatre, the Huludun Cultural Centre in Taichung, and more.
Music Tour cum Master Class to Scotland
The post-exam week in July was especially exciting for our musicians. From 3rd to 13th July 2018, the school choir and recorder team embarked on a highly fruitful exchange and performance tour to Scotland and England. During this music educational tour, students attended choral workshops and a recorder workshop at the University of Scotland. They also had the opportunity to perform their own piece of music at historical sites such as Dunblane Cathedral and Holy Trinity Church of Stirling. The students actively participated in an exciting musical exchange, which included enjoyable rehearsals and a memorable performance under the guidance of renowned European music educators.
Physical Development
The Department of Physical Education (PE)
Students will…

learn different sports skills and receive physical fitness training systematically;

see for themselves the pleasure of playing sports which thus leads a positive and healthy life; and

become more willing to take up challenges in the future.
Curriculum Information

Students will learn about their own physical qualities and explore their lifelong sports.

Classes will be conducted in the school swimming pool where students are taught the 4 types of swimming styles and strokes (freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly), turns and the basics of swimming dive.

All students will be given the opportunity to lead activities in class.
-
Students will learn the rules and regulations of different sports and their tactics.

Students’ aesthetics is cultivated such that they may help to design the cover of the programme brochures for Sports Day and Swimming Gala.
Outside the Classroom
All students have the opportunity to be part of any sports team in TTCA. School team selection for S.1 students is held every August and students will be selected by coaches to join school team training.
Through practices and different types of competitions, not only will their skills will be enhanced, but also their’ willpower and perseverance will be developed. Students will learn to make their best endeavours whenever they face difficulties, becoming the best version of themselves, and collaborate with one another.
Not only are students given the opportunities to join inter-house activities and activities held by the Student Union in school outside of class hours, they can also learn to organize activities and assume the roles of judges for Sports Day and Swimming Gala, further broadening their horizons in sports.
Visual Arts
The Department of Visual Arts (VA)
The Department of Visual Arts aims to provide a platform for collaborative learning, project-based learning and field trips to broaden students’ visions of Arts. We acknowledge the history of arts in a sense that we, our civilizations, need to understand the past, regardless of whether inventions or obstacles, and transform such understanding into works that shine. Throughout the course, students are nurtured with good values so that their potential and leadership in the arts can be maximized. We also aim to create a sense of belonging to the school by promoting an inviting campus atmosphere.
Curriculum Information
Junior Curriculum
The Department of Visual Arts offers structured theme-based projects for students to appreciate the history of art and design in their junior years. We adopt a modular approach by introducing various art and design movements and media, providing a broaden understanding of what arts and design in context related to their life and history. Through project-based learning, students can enjoy the flexibility in the scope of their projects while flourishing their individual artistic developments.
Senior Curriculum
In their senior forms, students will explore a variety of ways to investigate their relationship with arts. Based on the HKDSE syllabus, the senior form curriculum not only focuses on developing art appreciation skills and critical thinking skills; but also provides students various local and overseas field trip experiences. Technical skills in art productions are then developed in S.5 and S.6 in order to enable students to visualize the concepts into a piece of art that transcends personal understanding of their chosen topic.
