The Department of Mathematics

Our team of professionals highly dedicated student learning aims to foster students’ interest in Mathematics beyond the classroom, stimulating their curiosity and expanding their potentials by providing a variety of enhancement programmes and extra-curricular activities.

Curriculum Information

Both the junior and senior Mathematics curricula at TTCA focus on:

  • developing students’ creative thinking, logical reasoning, the ability to apply their knowledge and skills in problem solving, higher-order thinking skills, conceptual understanding and the ability to apply their knowledge and skills in problem solving;

  • maintaining a balance between process abilities and basic computational skills and contents; and

  • incorporating the use of IT to foster students’ interests and deepen their understanding in Mathematics.

Outside the Classroom

We acknowledge the importance of learning through different means to explore students’ potentials in Mathematics.

The Mathematics Fun Day is specially organized on OLE Day for our S.2 students, who are encouraged to try different tasks such as construction, estimation and mensuration, T-puzzle and relay competition within a specific time slot.  Senior form (S.4 – S.5) students serve as helpers for their junior form schoolmates on the day.

In recent years, ‘Mathematics Party’, where students enjoyed different Mathematics games such as Dominosa, Ken Ken Puzzle, Sudoku, Math Pattern and different types of logical questions for consecutive weeks, was organized by our Maths department. It provides opportunities for students to not only participate in Math activities but also develop problem-solving skills with our teachers.

Students are also encouraged to participate in various competitions held by local and overseas organizations to challenge themselves. Students of TTCA have achieved outstanding results in the following events over the years:

  • Pui Ching Invitational Mathematics Competition

  • Hong Kong Youth Mathematical High Achievers Selection Contest

  • Hong Kong International Mathematical Olympiad

  • HuaXia Cup

  • Hong Kong Mathematical Games Open

  • ICAS, etc.
